So the question is: painting colors. I was going to do the entire engine block orange. Now my buddy says I should paint the intake manifold gray and the engine orange but have the timing chain cover black with black bolts. And some other small bracket black (like the wire loom brackets). What do you think?
Re: Engine Pulled - Now I have a question (greenice)
Why did you pull the engine out of curiosity? It sounds to me that your friend is wanting you to paint the intake grey to possibly immitate an aluminum one. Get an aluminum intake if so. As far as the timing chain cover, I'd either keep it the original color or go chrome like the valve covers.
Re: Engine Pulled - Now I have a question (greenice)
Hey Paul,
I am a bit surprised that you pulled the engine, too.
When you stopped by and took me out for a ride this summer,
it seemed to be running great. I hope there aren't any problems.
Just wanted to clean it up and paint it ?
Now that the engine is out, there is plenty more room to get in there
and do a front suspension rebuild. If I recall, this is the only area that I
could find to pick on. The rest of your vette looked great.
Re: Engine Pulled - Now I have a question (NHvette)
Hey Dave,
Nope, nothing wrong with the engine. Normal leaks (oil and steering pump). So I decided to pull it and clean it up and then freshen the paint job. I going to do some limited work on the front end. Replacing the front sway bar bushings but not doing the control arms yet (running out of money) And you would be amazed at how many loose bolts were on the engine.
So I might pull the engine again next year. It wasn't that hard to pull it out this time. The problem will come with putting it back in.
