Yes they can. It's really only economical to do so if you want to stay with the correct numbers matching fan clutch. A replacement unit from GM will work just as well and likely cost less than the restoration.

If your keeping it stock-have it rebuilt. The best thing I did to my 64 which was pumped to the hilt was discard the cluth fan and installed a four blade aluminum flex fan.At the time I lived in Calif.It ran much cooler.Funny as it may seem I occasionally had vapor lock and this was cured by puttinf a wooden close pin on the fuel line before the fuel pump.
