Default The horn is not working...

I am restoring an ’82 vette and I am having trouble getting the horn to work. I connected it directly to the battery and it worked fine, so the problem is between the horn and switch. Haynes says to check the fuse and the relay, I can find neither of these. I looked at every fuse on the fuse box, and I did not find the word fuse anywhere. Is it combined with something else, or is it in another location? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I think that this will help you. Go to http://www.corvettefaq.com and look in the Steering section. Look for the paper entitled Horn Operation Diagnosis.

The relay on my '80 was under the dash - hanging near the fuse box. I just went through the same thing you are. My problems were that the bubba before me had removed the parts from the horn button, and the relay was bad ($6 at Autozone). The link Jim mentions was great in helping me work through it.

:withstupid:

The horn relay on my '79 was white/clear plastic and hanging very close to my fusebox. If you can't figure out which fuse is for the horn.. you can do a few different things.

1) if your interior lights, spare tire light, & possibly the power antenna work, the horn fuse is good.
2) Pull out and inspect every single fuse in the box.

You might want to do a quick check to make sure you are getting power to the horn contact. Pull the contact of one of the two horns. Stick the pointy end of a test probe, ( one that has a lamp on the top of it ) in the horn contact and connect the other end to a ground. Set it somewhere you can see it and then hit the horn button. If there is power to the contact, you should see the lamp come on. If it doesn't light up, your problem could be a bad ground, bad fuse, bad horn relay, or a bad or broken contact in the wiring or in the column. Electrical problems are a challenge and a process of elimination. You'll find it..sooner or later...Good Luck
