Default engine detail paint help

I have just finished rebuilding my 71 SB and am ready to detail the assembled motor. I'm looking for helpful tips on a method to prep and paint the motor. My current plan is to use chevy orange by Industrial Finishes (aerosol can). Thanks

Default Re: engine detail paint help (SteelCitiesLT1)

Nothing will stick for very long on oil, gasket cement, silicone etc.
The engine has to be perfectly clean for any finish to stay put.

I media-blast engine blocks, heads, intakes, oil pans, exhaust manifolds...
and I regularly find rust underneath what appears to be good solid paint.

Unless you have bare metal, the paint will most likely peel after a short time.

Having said that... I have no experience with "Industrial Finishes" so I can't comment on their products durability.

One "gotcha".... if you have an exhaust crossover passage, and it is clear (working properly), any paint not good for 1200 degrees will flake off. I tried the 500 degree stuff on a freshly blasted cast iron intake, and it burned off within 20 minutes.
