Engine idles but will not run
Distributor was off, at TDC rotor was pointing at #8 (Fixed). Car idles but will not stay running and engine light flickers. Engine code 12 no matter what. Earlier thread I replaced fuel pump with 1986, getting plenty of fuel. Not sure what is causing the engine light to flicker while idling. Have replaced coolant sensor and knock sensor. The only thing I have not replaced in the distributor is the pickup coil, if it idles; doesn't that mean the pickup coil still be good?

I would almost think that your having an issue with the electric juice action. As far as maybe your battery is crapola, or your alt isnt feeding enough to keep it running all the way. Hook up a multimeter to the battery and find out during your startup and whatnot.
In my cars with dummy lights I dont ever usually get a battery light just a check engine when its starting to let go. so I dont really take that to mean anything other than something is fubar.
Maybe as a second thought you should remove the air filter and spray a little carb cleaner in there and see if it perks up if even for a moment. Can you stand it and make it run with a little more rpm?
And maybe even TTT with everyone else...

pick up coil, you mean the ignition module? If the car fires, the module is good....get your ignition coil checked, also check the injector(s), and how old is the fuel filter?
