How do I remove the hood latches?
I have a '79 and am in the process of painting the frame and engine compartment. I want to remove the latches(that hold the hood down) from the firewall. My question is: I know that I can remove the nuts from the top, but what holds the bolt? There doesn't seem to be a way to get to the head of the bolt, so what do I do? Thanks...

On my 70, I was not able to remove the bolts. The bolts stayed on the car. I don't know if the 79 is the same way.

On my 70, I was not able to remove the bolts. The bolts stayed on the car. I don't know if the 79 is the same way.

I am sure they will stay in place. Mine did not move and I had my latches out for over 10 months while I piddled around rebuilding the motor and front suspension. Loosen up the nut on all sides of the latches and when the latch is loose, make sure the bolts stay in place before finally removing the latch. This should help confirm if the bolts will stay in place.
