I ATTEMPTED TO START THE VERT TODAY AFTER RECHARGING THE BATTERY. AS THE VEHICLE WAS CRANKING, (VEHICLE DIDNT START, DISTRIBUTOR ROTOR PROBABLY NOT POINTING TOWARD #1 CYL) FUEL FROM THE PRIMARIES(EDELBROCK CARB) WAS SQUIRTING STRAIGHT UP IN THE AIR. IS THERE ANYTHING I DIDN'T DO TO PREVENT THIS FROM HAPPENING? IS IT NECESSARY TO PUT A TEA OR TABLESPOON OF GAS IN THE CARB? IF SO WHERE ON THE EDEL CARB? ALL SUGGESTIONS ARE GREATLY APPRECIATED.
fuel is squirting straight up in the air? are you sure you didn't mount the carb upside down? :p: o.k. sorry, i'm sure it's no joking matter to you not to mention a fire hazard. not terribly familiar with the edelbrocks. i think they're supposed to be a knock off of the old carter AFBs. either way, fuel shouldn't be coming out of the carb at all. don't know how much help i can be but i'm going to ask a few questions that may help clarify for others who are more knowledgable than me.
1) is this all the time when your cranking or only when you pump the accelerator?
2) if you look down inside the primary venturies, can you see fuel dripping/streaming into the carb? by that i mean raw gas. even when you pump the accelerator, the fuel should come out in a spray pattern.
3) when you pull a spark plug is it dripping wet?
4) has it fired over at all? and if so, did it run and how?
5) is this an old, rebuilt or new carburator?
6) have you checked to make sure there is nothing holding the needle off the seat?
answers to some of these questons may give a better clue as to what is going on.
if nothing else, bump.
1. Only when cranking.
2. Saw no fuel dripping into the primary venturies.
3. Did not do yet.
4. Did not fire over. (rotor probably not pointing toward #1 cylinder)
5. New Edelbrock 600cfm carb. (purchased Nov 2000, placed on vehicle last
month, attempted to start last week)
6. If so what would I be looking for?
