Which speakers for C3?
I am wanting to update my dash speakers in my 72' C3. In the MidAmerica catalog is description of replacement speakers that will fit my current brackets. Pioneer 100 watt for 49.95 and Kenwood 60 watt for 79.95. I don't know why more watts cost ? Anyway any opinions as to brand and watts?

I am also looking into a front speaker upgrade.
Although, when I tear my dash apart, I'm going to mock it up with some 6x9's to see if I can get 'em to fit there.
Has anybody fit any larger than stock speaker in the front??
I have two 12" with custom boxes waiting to be installed, and I still need something for the front that will be louder than the motor.

As a general rule, the higher the wattage a speaker is rated, the stiffer the cone material needs to be to withstand that higher power. This can have a direct bearing on the sound quality/range that speaker can reproduce. With most aftermarket decks being rated at ~25rms with a peak of 40-50 watts, anything over 60 watts is overkill unless your adding an amp into the mix. The best way to tell which speaker sounds best, is to listen to several side by side. Thats why most stereo shops have a wall with a selection of speakers mounted.

When I did the stereo in my car I put in a few sets of 4x6s from Polk. I put one set in the dash and added a set in the kick panels.

I put Infinity Kappa 4x6 plates in my dash last winter and they rock. There's no way you're getting 6x9s under there though.... I put my Kappa 6x9s in boxes in the back. T-tops barely fit back there now, but they do fit.

I used MB Quart 4x6's for the fronts and 6x9's in the rear. You do have to be very careful to keep in mind that there is _very little_ room under the dash on the driver's side, so you should measure the existing speaker depth and try to match your replacement speaker to that dimension.
I had to modify the MBQ's to fit, and believe me, even with all the material I removed, it was a _tight_ fit. But they sound great, so it was well worth it!
As for power rating, don't worry so much about that as opposed to the frequency response of the speakers. There's a pile of junk out there being sold by nothing more than a watt rating, but that has NO bearing on how well they will sound! If you cannot look at a frequency response graph and a specification sheet for the speaker you are considering, DO NOT BUY IT!!!
