Default Exhaust performance question

I have a 71 coupe 350 bored.30, flathead pistons, edelbrock performer 7500, Holley Dominator 650, Comp Cam and ORIGINAL HEADERS.....Needless to say the guy I bought the car from left the original headers on it. I want to redo the exhaust and need advice on what I should do and what kind of performance I can expect. I like the Hooker Headers and maybe throw some sidepipes on.

nothing wrong with your thought process...get some free flowing muffler inserst, like JCL's. You will be a happy man.

Thanks. I will look into it. Does anyone know what type HP increase an exhaust system should give me?

I would guess the minimum would be 25-35 HP increae....more if you have more mods...bigger cam, head work, compression, etc.

Sidepipes look great but the HP gain numbers are less than true duals straight back because of the radical bends. Still, unless you are racing - who cares? Put on the sidepipes!

Hard to estimate without knowing what is on now - if you are running 2" to old mufflers and you upgrade to 2-1/2" with good flowing mufflers would probably gain you 25-35 HP. I doubt the new headers would really add a lot of gain unless the old headers are sized wrong.

GDaina. Maybe we should put true duals back on your BB so you can gain some lost HP that your losing with the sidepipes. JCL
