Default Gauge question, where, what, and how

Okay, I got my speedo and tach in, now for the center console gauges. I guess I'll just have to do a little cutting, but heres the questions.

(these are gauges left over from an unfinished project) all autometer pro-comps

will my fuel level meter work with my stock sending unit? it's the sending unit from ecklers.

also my fuel pressure and oil pressure gauges are mechanical....where should I mount them? I don't think I should mount in the car.

So many questions!

I don't have an answer to most of them, but in 1970 (and prior years) the oil pressure gauge in the center console is mechanical, so I would think it's OK to mount it there also as long as the sending tube is thin enough.

Good luck...

No, don't mount the fuel pressure gauge in the car. Put it underhood. Or, ifyou really want to keep track of it, mount it on the cowl. The oil pressure gauge is less serious. But you could end up with oil all over your interior. I'm not sure of the sending unit question.

I suppose you could give it a shot and see?

yeah I think I'll mount the fuel pressure under the hood....prolly look goood

just hopeing that it's safe to have the oil pressure in the car....just have to use some good pipe dope.

still just wondering about that fuel level gauge and the stock sender

If you ever crawl under the dash of a Bell helicopter they use plain old plastic tubing.

You can get an isolator to allow you to use your fuel pressure gage in the car.

Corvette tank units should have a restiance of 0 to 90 ohms. If your gage is calibrated to that also then you should be fine.

I made my own hood for the nitrous bigblock and used the back of the cowl to mount 2 fuel pressure gages, oil temp, shift light, oil light and temp lite.
When the hood is closed they are no visible from the outside but from the inside you can see them fine.

The fuel sending unit works on a 0-90 ohm resistance if the gauge is setup for that it will work ...I'd ask whoever you got the gauges from.
I'm betting its a later model unit that works on higher resistance though.

Good idea keeping the fuel gauge outside. I made this little plate up to sit in my console with out cutting the console. I have a oil pressure & temp gauge mounted in it. These are for my new TH700R4 trans from Bow Tie. I have no problems mounting the pressure gauge inside as the hose is of high quality.
