CRUISE CONTROL CONVERSION
1977+ Steering Column in Early C3s - adding dimmer column to early Sharks
Try and purchase the steering wheel as well as the horn button, telescoping hardware, extension, and the tilt and turn signal levers with the column. It should be a lot cheaper than trying to piece it together.
The 1977 steering column was unique in that it had the windshield wash/wipe switch as part of the steering column. Unless you really want to use the switch on the column rather than the switch on your dash, you should probably try and use a 1978 through 1982 T&T column. Also the turn signal lever on the 1977 column is unique for that one year only. The cruise control on the 1977 column was activated by a button on the end of the tilt lever. This also was a one year only option and the tilt lever is very rare.
The 1978 through 1982 T&T columns had a turn signal lever that had the cruise feature available as an option. I believe that this lever is still available from some Corvette suppliers.
There is a posting today concerning the installation of a cruise control system on a C3. http://forums.corvetteforum.com/zerothread?id=690324
Let me know how this installation turns out.
