Default dot 3/4 vs dot 5 brake fluid

I am not positive what type of brake fluid I have in my 71. Is there an easy way to find out? I know you can't mix them and the brakes are working great so I don't want to flush the system. Thanks, Jim

jak,
I could be wrong but I believe it's marked on your caliper somewhere.
I would imagine it would be dot 3
dot 4 is usually for race cars and motorcycles
dot 5, I believe is synthetic
According to my owners manual for mine it's dot 3

DOT 5 is purple colored (it's also silicone). Put a little is a glass jar with some water and it won't mix if it's DOT 5. DOT 3 & 4 will mix with water.
