As much as id like to get a racing block i just dont, and wont have the money to buy one (at least for 3-4 years) so im wondering how much can the stock block take, is it 2 bolt maincaps? and how much can the stock bottom end hold up. It an L-82 with 750 speed demon and performer RPM intake :chevy :seeya :D
Re: How much HP can stock block take (killervette666)
Just remember that before aluminum blocks all drag racers were using factory cast iron blocks and heads. On gasoline, built correctly even with superchargers they were very durable. With nitro, well thats another story. :D
Re: How much HP can stock block take (killervette666)
A lot of it depends on the block and components. A high nickel block is much stronger than the others.
4-bolt mains will help. L-82s had them. PROBABLY LT-1s as well but don't quote me on that.
Lot of guys have really good lock with the 2-bolt block and a balanced cast crank. Worse come to worse, you can pick up a BRAND NEW 4-bolt block for ~$600 from paceparts. That's about the only good thing about the engine I have in my vette - a strong bottom end.

how much can the stock bottom end hold up??
if you go with upgraded rotating assembly and splayed mains, your block will make more power than your IRS can handle. GM rates their iron blocks for 850hp, and as stated above, it is a conservative number. splay your two bolt and go forged parts, then built your dream. Brian
