Re: 78 have lock-up (homedawg247)
Not really a answer on the torque converter question, but I've been un impressed with B+M products ever since I had a Megashifter by them.Broke 3 cables a year on average, and the ratcheting mechanism wasn't always foolproof on it.Have you looked at Art Carr or TCI transmissions,I've had better luck out of them personally.
To the best of my knowledge, the '78s came with the THM350 non-locking version (am told the last THM400's were '77 L-82s? A buddy had the 400 in his 77 L-82...).
I think the '81s had a THM350-C, with a lock-up converter; the '82s had 700R4 4-speed/AOD models
would it be better to go w/ a lock-up this time around? what are the benefits to a lock up? also, anyone done business w/ transmissioncenter.net ? saw they have a Hi perf. tranny for only $450 and there's no core charge. thanks
The best ting you could do for your car would be to swap in an overdrive 4sp automatic with lockup convertor like the 200r4. But you aint goon get the whole kit for $450. More like $1200 for the whole shebang. Worth every penny though.
