I've been looking into a 670 street avenger carb lately and was told by a racing shop,(eBAy), that there is a common off idle problem with them. I wasn't told what it is exactly or how they fix it. Before buying one I was wondering who has them and if you have/had this problem?
Thanks,
Gary
I bought the 770cfm. It would not idle down to anything sane. Adjusted with no affect. Finally found both the primary and the secondary throttle plates were not closing 100% without bind. Took then all off and used emery cloth to deburr and smooth the edges off and then aligned them perfectly when I put it back together. Worked great, but ran a little rich. Adjusted the float level and now it runs very smooth. I did not have an off idle like you heard, but I have talked to others that have had the same issues that I described.
Is the carb worth it, yes as it runs strong and now.
Gary,
I just put a Street Avenger 670 on my 80 w/ a ZZ4. The only issue I had with it is deiseling- continuing to run after I shut it off. I lowed the idle, and it went away. Then one day- reappeared??
Other than that- which I am sure I will figure out, it seems to be a really nice carb.
I installed a 670 on mine about 8 months ago. Run out-ot-the-box, a couple of minor tweaks with the jets and float bowls and it's been running fine ever since.
It's installed on a Performer intake with a 1/2" fiber spacer between the fcarb and the intake.
I'm running the 670 with an Edelbrock EPS intake on my 355 and have had no problems. It's was installed straight out of the box about 2K miles ago. I'm also running an XE262 cam and the idle is acceptable at 750 RPM.
i got a street avenger 670 on my 74. right out of the box, runs good, but i got a terrible off idle hesitiation. I think i might need to adjust the float bowls alittle, because it seems like not enough gas is getting there. other than that..great running and strong carb. definitely better than that Demon POS i had.

Re: Holley St avenger problems (gtr1999)
I have a 670 on mine also. It ran fine right out of the box. My father in law helped me tweek it a little. I do have an off idle stumble that is really noticeable with the Keisler 5 speed. I have changed the primary jets just up 2 and lowered the idle speed. I am happy with it.
