Default Vacuum question

Ok, my vac systems works - but not as well as I believe it should. When I turn the lights on, the electric works, but the lights come up slowly. When I jiggle the large pump on the passenger side - boom, they come right up/go right down. This is the same for the windshield housing - any suggestions as to an easy solution? Thanks.

Assume that you have a 68-72 Vette with the wiper door and that the "pump" on the passanger side is the accuator that opens the wiper door. From what you say it sounds as if there may be a vac leak in that accuator or its plumbing. How well does the wiper door work?

Does that actuator control both the lights and the wiper door? I assumed so since with a little shake the light open/close, as does the wiper door. The wiper door was not opening freely due to whoever painted the car - horrible overspray. The car looks awesome from a couple feet - minor imperfections in the paint, but the wiper door linkage was all bound up and not moving freely. I have since stripped, lubed, and adjusted everything - but have not tested the door yet. I expect it to move most of the way to open. When I purchased the car, and tested the wipers, they were bound and I new I had to fix it. However, when the actuator was jiggled or adjusted the door began to open.

What does this actuator do for the headlights? I am a little baffled by this system. Thanks for your input.

It is just that all of the vac stuff is interconnected, so a leak in one section can effect other functions.
