I am having problems installing the dipstick for a th350, keep braking the o-ring. I have tried to install it twice and keep breaking the o-ring. Need some advice :yesnod:
Re: NEED HELP; Tranmission dipstick o-ring problem (JRD77VET)
Check to see if there is a sharp edge that is catching the o-ring.
Did you put grease on the o-ring to help it slide into place?
:seeya Jeff
I will check for a sharp edge, never thought of it
No, didn't put any grease on it, but will.
Mine didn't go in easy, but never have done one before. I was unable to put in all the way while laying under the car. So I tried to push it in from the top and couldn't get it, so finally put a wood block on it and lightly tapped with a hammer, is this normal?

This method takes two people to work. One under the car guiding the tube and one tapping lightly to drive it into the trans.
Take a vise grips and lightly squeeze just above the bulge on the bottom of the dipstick. Place a rod on the vise grips and tap from the top to drive it into the trans.
I did this on my '72 Monte Carlo. I don't know if there is room around a Corvette transmission hump .
