After two and a half months, the '74 is finally back on the road. It sat in the driveway for about two months with, what I thought was, a major trasmission problem. It turned out that the lubricant on the shifter had dried up. The shifter was jammed between 1st and 2nd and the trans. was in 4th. They took the shifter out, chipped the 30 year old lubricant off, put new lube in, and reinstalled the shifter. That was it! Then, the day after we got the car back, my aunt goes to drive the car. She tries to start it and all it does is click. Herte the battery is just about dead. So we have to get a new battery. So we think we finally have it fixed. Well, I was looking under the hood and see that I have no alternator belt! Also, the transmission shop left a trickle charger in the back of the car. When my aunt returned the charger, the transmission shop said they have a heck of a time keeping the battery charged. So the belt must have snapped when the transmission shop guys started the car. So we took the car to have the belt replaced on Tuesday. Well, after sitting in a driveway for two months, under a bunch of trees, an with no cover, the car was pretty much a mess. It took me from last Friday to Monday night to get the car clean again. It took me an hour to get four bucket fulls of leaves out of the engine bay! Well, hopefully I have no more problems with it. It's too bad that I have to put it in storage on the 5th. I just got it back! Oh well!

 

Good to hear it wasn't something major. Your story pretty much epitamizes these C-3's though. You fix one thing and darn if something else doesn't pop up. I guess if you play with old toys you gotta expect it.
