Default Timing Chain Material?

For an 80 L82 vette, does the timing chain for these cars have the plastic tips or are they all metal? I am beginning to think my timing has slipped. If all metal I will probably rule that out.

As far as I know it is nylon. But it could have been changed some time in the past. What are the symptoms?

106K miles, 23yrs old, original timing chain.
Bad miss at all speeds.
Had to advance the distributor to where it almost hits the intake just to keep running. Plugs pulled checked (carbon fouled consistent all), clean, check gap, replaced. Wires new in spring looked ok now. Carb completely refurbished. EGR was bad causing black wet soot out tailpipes but EGR fixed now. Now bad miss at all speeds.

Changed all plugs tonight, one fouled. Still have surging of 200 rpm.
