Default Cheap Plug Wires a lesson learned.

A couple of months ago I was having some proiblems with my 1994 Chevy truck, it was running rough and missing occasionally. I did a tune up on it and replaced the plug wires along with plugs, distributor cap and rotor among other parts. That fixed the truck right up. Since this is my beater I didn't spring for more expensive plug wires, just the $16.00 parts store cheapy brand.
Last night I pulled into my driveway and popped the hood, it was dark out but as soon as I raised the hood, I was treated to a light show!
The 3 month old plug wire were arcing aall over the place! No obivous cracks or holes but timy burn marks where the wires were aring through!
I replaced them this afternoon and now the trcuk runs great! I learned a valuable lesson, don't buy cheap azz parts from the parts store!! I don't know how they get away with selling crap like that. :reddevil

Its hard to cough up the kind of money they want for the good stuff sometimes. The cheapies make for a nice light show.

I ruined a good set of plug wires on former ’90 Chevy pickup. Used a sharp toothed Leslie tool to pull off the boots. Couldn’t see the holes but misfires keep getting worse. Use a soft jaw wirepuller now.
$16 for new wires??? Must have been 100% recycled materials. Maybe used breast-implant silicone from girls here in California. Hey, Dow Corning has a lot sagging ***** to pay for.

I do see a lot of good inexpensive plug wires at most auto stores. Don’t see any need for $100 race wires on a lo-power street machine. I just look for SS spiral core with at least 7mm silicon jacket. 8mm nice but 8.5 is overkill. Money is better spent on heat barrier/shields for the boots.
