Re: what to use when sealing intake (randexter1969)
Lots of posts on this topic.
CLEAN - CLEAN and CLEAN is the name of the game to start with. Put rags over the lifters and stuff in the head intake runners. HINT - don't forget the rags when you put on the intake. Awful easy to do it.
I use Edelbrock Gaskacinch on the head side and gasket side. It secures the gasket to the head very well.
I use RTV red with a light coat applied with your finger on the water jacket holes on the intake gasket.
Throw away the rubber or cork end rails and use RTV on the block rails. A 1/4" bead is all that is necessary.
Set the manifold in place and follow the torque sequence in the book. Let it set up overnight and come back and retorque again. Put all the stuff back on and run for a 100 miles or so and check your torque one more time. Should be good to go.
I use liquid Hi-tack to glue the gaskets to the heads. A light coating and place them in position. Then I set the maniflod and snug the bolts down. Let sit for a hour and remove the manifold. Check gasket position and if everything looks OK, Then I use RTV on the front and back lip and reinstall the manifold and torque down. Torque them down in steps. Recheck the bolts after every time I run it until the bolts stay torqued. Usually about 3 good runs.

I use Permatex Copper instead of the rubber on the front and back valley edges and Permatex 2 on the bolts. A little of the copper around the coolant passages also. And Fel-Pro gaskets.
