Power Steering Rants
In the past six months, I have replaced my whole P/ST system except for the gearbox, TWICE :nonod: and I am FRUSTRATED! :mad
The Ram and Control Valve both leaked but my vendor replaced them with another pair of ARI units and they are fine now. I then replaced the pump and both pressure, and return hoses. Yesterday the pressure hose (an Omega brand) split and I put her up in the air today and replaced it again. I drove her home (20 MI) from work and parked it over the drip pan as usual. Half hour later I went out to put the car cover on her only to find another puddle of Dextron under the pump. Looks like the vendor needs to send me yet another pump and labor claim.
I AM PI$$ED OFF! :mad :nonod:
After the new 383 a year ago and getting it fine tuned, I don't need LEAKS!
Hi Paul
I went through the same thing quite a few times. Here's a post I put up last week http://forums.corvetteforum.com/zerothread?id=692931
As you can see from the post until I replaced the pump with the AGR unit I never really had power steering. Also, every time I replaced the ram and control valve with rebuilt units I had problems. Eventually I replaced the ram and control valve with new units and the AGR pump was the piece that finally did it. Good luck with yours.

Re: Power Steering Rants (vettfixr)
Thanks for the tip! What do they charge for them if you recall??? I'm in the middle of moving and my catalogs are at work.... guess I COULD check online. It just irritates the heck outta me to have so much $$$ tied up in new motor, new cooling system etc and then to have the new P/St system be the only thing leaking on the car. And it leaks repeatedly over each thing I have changed!
:cuss :nonod:
I can relate with this one! I blew the high pressure hose back in Feb. I replaced the hose and pump at the same time. The car then proceeded to blow off the PS belt. :mad I couldn't get the pulleys aligned, even after some :smash: on the bracket. I bought a new bracket, got things lined up and the car blew off another belt. I have since replaced the pump again and had good luck for about a week until this evening when it came off yet again! :banghead:
The system was rebuilt a year ago to take care of leaks in the ram and control valve, and works well otherwise, and actually doesn't leak :)
My only question is:
Is there any difference between a '77 and '81 pump, other than the high pressure fitting? I made the mistake of ordering a '77 pump, and had to switch the fitting for the high pressure hose. The car has parts off of both years (check my sig), and I am still learning what's what the hard way.
