Other than the exact date of maunfacture, what numbers are missing here?
I believe the number preceeding the - 160 should be the A.O. Smith part number, which if not changed, and remained the same as from 1963-1972 should be 303196. (Or should it be the GM part number???)
Does anyone know what the GM part number for the frame was in 1973? The number is for a coupe w/ auto trans.
I do know that the character height did change...these measure at 3/4" as opposed to 1" that was used from 1968-1972.
If anyone has a picture of theirs it would be most helpful...but as always, any and all help is greatly appreciated!!
Dave, Dr. Rebuild has the stencils so you can duplicate yours. It was sprayed upside down. I really like the green 4 that means the shims for that mount point. There is a book out there that is really helpful for fram restoration, most all vendors have it including the NCRS store. Good luck with the restoration. Thad
Thad, Thanks for your reply and the tip on where to get the stencils!
I know about the shim markings, and the ID being painted upside down....the only shim marking numbres remaining for me were located at the #1 right and #4 right mounts.....the rest have faded away with age....and rust! I learned about frame ID and shim markings from reading the Corvette Chassis Restoration Guide by Joseph A. Tripoli, Jr. The only problem is, he stops with ID specifics at 1972, and mine is a 1973. (seems like I'm always "1" over the line one way or the other :jester )
Anywho....if anyone has the specific info I'm looking for on a 1973, please let me know :D
You might want to post this question on the NCRS board http://www.ncrs.org
I checked the judging guide for 1971 and it states a stencil on the passengers side frame rail recorded the part number and date of assembly but does not go into describing these numbers any further.
Here's a pic of the stencil on my cars frame during restoration (3987883-127)
5.12.71
Thanks, Guys! I have posted my question in the Factory Correct section. At this point all I need is the GM part number for the frame. My date stamp should be 2.21.73 :D
