i was trying to diagnose a windshield wiper washer pump. i hooked up a tester to see if any juice was getting to the pump but now my wipers do not want to stop. they keep wiping even though the wiper switch is in the off position. i have the service manual but this system seems complicated. anyone have any advice. if the wiper switch went bad, how do i remove it?
the problem isn't in the motor, it's in the wiper delay module. I think you fried it. It's installed in the rear pass. side compartment area, under the compartment box.
I think you are right. i took the module out and it smells burnt. i called several chevy dealers and they all told me the same thing, DISCONTINUED. I called a local corvette only repair shop and they have it brand new in a box for $190.00. i guess i have no other choice.
How are you with electronics? Might be worth trying to rebuild it. I'm doing mine at the moment, but it's gone on hold for a while, 'cos i've decided to make up a whole new printed circuit board as well as replacing the components..
Might be better than shelling out 190 dollars (although that is probably the quick, frustration free method, believe me!)
Mine was fried pretty bad, the plastic casing fell off (it's secured by tape from the factory   ) and the print plate touched some metal and ZAP it was dead. I couldn't get a later model unit so I got an earlier one. The unit is the same, the color coding on the wires and the connector are different however. Some puzzling and I hooked the correct connector off the zapped unit to the older one and it works like a charm
It's a pretty crappy set up - mine was rolling around in the jackbox when i got the car, wrapped in an old t-shirt! Took me a while to realise it was supposed to be taped up in to the plastic casing (need to be a contorsionist to get to it too!)
Now it's just working when it feels like it, despite my efforts with the soldering iron! I've identified replacements for all the components, so I'm going to etch a new circuit board and start from scratch. Really against the idea of 200 bucks to get my wipers working right :D
well, i bought the module today. I took the old one to an electrical shop and they told me that sometimes it is difficult to find replacement circuit board parts because GM uses proprietary items. he offered me to leave it there but could not promise that he could repair it. I did not like shelling out the $190 but it just makes the job so much easier to fix. ever since i purchased the car, the intermittent funtionality of the wipers did not work, so hopefully it fixes this as well.
