Default Side pipes for my 71BB

The motor is out for a complete balance job and cam change, my question is I want side pipes! My sanderson block hugger headers are center dump style, what will I need to make the change to side pipes and what should I go with , original or Hooker style. Please give me some direction! I want it loud, not wimpy....

If you want it loud....hookers, though JCL has inserts for the stock side pipes

I would go with the Hooker Side pipes, you can go with different inserts to get the sound level you are after.

I like those sidepipes mark, especially considering i have dynomax headers!! Where did you get them?? How much?? How do they sound, and how was the performance gain/loss. I have a 71 with a custom 350 as well, and would love that setup! Thnx,

Brandon

Brandon: I bought the covers and mufflers from http://www.ecklers.com

They have fiberglass covers and chrome-plated. I sprung for the chrome ones and they are pricy! The fiberglass ones are much less expensive and can be painted to look original. The mufflers are stainless steel and are made by Allen's Mufflers. They have a nice low rumble at idle and are sorta loud at speed, but I love it. I can still hear the radio at 75 with the volume up. You need a creative muffler guy to match it all up with the Dynomax headers.

I like that look too. I think JCL can fit a 3 inch pipe under there too. I emailed him a while ago. I'll see if I can find it.

I unfortuantely have raised port Merlin heads, that makes a difference for sure. If I went with the hookers would they work with my existing block huggers?

No, I don't think so. I think it's be either the Sanderson's or the Hookers. Here's a pic of a really rusty set of Hooker sidemounts for a SB. A picture hopefully tells a thousand words. I'm not sure the stock BB manifolds would work with those raised ports.
