75 TACH STUCK ON 18-HELP-
THE TACH HAS NOT WORKED SINCE I GOT THE CAR IN AUG 03. I FINSHED MOST OF THE MAJOR SUFF ALREADY. THE NEEDLE STAYS ON 18 RUNNING OR NOT RUNNING. WHAT SHOULD I START LOOKING AT?

Mine did the same thing after a few days of finishing the frame off restoration. The circuit board is the cause of the problem, you could either replace the board or send it in for repair. Chris at VetteInstruments@aol.com will be doing mine once I get it out of there this winter.

I would make sure the connection at the distributor cap is good. I would follow the lead and see of the tach noise filter is being used. If a filter is being used make sure it has not gone bad or has a broken lead. It can be bypassed. It all that is OK then it is probably a circuit board.....

Most probably it is the circuit board, replaced mine in my 77. The hardest part was getting the tach. out of the dash to be able to replace the board. Replacing the board take approx. 5 minutes, getting the tach out of the dash approx. 2 hrs. :lol: :lol:
