Default Fiber Optic Question?

I finally took the time to read my owners manual. It states that the three lenses for the monitoring of the rear lights are red (left tail light, license plate light, right tail light). Mine glow white. I have looked in all of my parts books and can not find out why they should be red. Should these indicators be red and if so what makes them glow that color?

In my car, the little lenses on the console are red, white and amber (front turn signals). The fiber bundles just bring white light to the lenses. With different colors, you can tell quickly at a glance which lights you are looking at. (They all look white until you step on the brakes or put on a turn signal, etc.)

If yours are all white, maybe they were replaced at one time with white ones...

:iagree:
The only thing that could change color besides the lens are bulb colors.

My front lenses are the correct colors, which is accomplished by the color of the lenses. The lenses that monitor the rear lights are clear, which makes them show white. In the parts books there is nothing that goes in the console that changes the color to red. If the pick up lense in the lights themselves is colored would that add the color to the console monitor lense and are the pick up lenese in the rear lights supposed to be colored red?

on my car the tailights fiber glow red coming to the console and the plate glows white. If memory serves me right the tailight fibers have a red boot lense where it attaches to the light housing. The lens for lights in the rear of the console is clear.

dreamn2 has it right.
Inside the tail light housing the little covers that go over the end of the fiber optic cable are colored red making the end inside of the cockpit light red.
The license plate light has a clear fitting on it making it look white or clear in the cockpit.

It looks like it is a combination of both colored lenses inside the car and colored pieces at the lights. Here are some links to pieces I found at a corvette parts place. First is the inside the car lenses that go in the center console. If you notice one is clear the other has colors. The colored one is for the front car lights. The brights glow blue, turn signals amber/red, and the headlight are clear. The other piece is for the tail lights and it is clear. http://www.ecklers.com/product.asp?p...G2UAVFXH2N13WB

Then you have the pieces that go on the lights at the taillight like these. http://www.ecklers.com/product.asp?p...G2UAVFXH2N13WB http://www.ecklers.com/product.asp?p...G2UAVFXH2N13WB

Sigforty, thanks for looking the parts up. Whoever painted my car last time painted right over all of the leneses and screwed my rear section of the fibre optics up real good. More money spent. I feel my wallet getting lighter as we speak.

According to the owners manual. Front monitors are an amber outer lens for parking and turn signal lamps, center green lens for the headlamp low-beam and the inner red lens for the headlamp high-beam. This is the way my car is set up.
Again according to the owners manual the rear indicators have the two red outer lenses indicate the left and right hand tail and stop lamp; the center lens, the license plate lamp. Although it dosen't say what color the license plate indicator is. One of the earlier post had all different colors.

On my 69, the front parking lamps and the rear tail/brake lamps use colored plastic "buttons". These colored buttons fit into a hole drilled in the light bezels. The buttons are retained in the holes by a rubber gasket/sleeve.

The fiber optic cables slide into the backs of these colored buttons...giving a red color to the tail/brake lights, and an amber color to the front parking lights.

For the headlights, the indicator itself is painted.....green low beam/red high beam--no plastic buttons. The license lamp indicator is clear....uses a clear plastic button.
