Default Different sort of Engine question

I've got a '78 Pace and am wanting an engine with more horsepower.
Thing is...I don't want to race, don't really want performance engine parts.
I'd like to make about 300-350hp
I've heard an LT1 or L98 might be good options...
what I really want to know is...
What engine would be easiest to just drop in and go (least amount of mounting/cutting changes etc)?--ability to change to manual tranny would be a plus!

Drop in a crate motor ZZ4 engine. The least amount of changes and a good reliable engine with plenty of power. Newer LT1 and L98 engines are computer driven engines if you want to keep the fuel injection. More work with one of them. Great engines but more work.

While the ZZ4 is a great motor, I think you'd be happier with the 350 HO. It's got 330 HP and 380 lbs-ft of torque. Everyone should know that torque rules on the street. Plus it is cheaper. Get the long block and use your accessories, you'll need a new flywheel/flexplate to match the 1-pc rear seal. Joe

I agree with Gordonm. Another option would be to upgade the engine you already have. If it's an L-48, just a mild cam and low restriction exhaust could be worth 50 hp. When it comes making power, there's nothing magical about using a newer block rather than an old one. Built to the same specs, they'll both make the same power.
