He's got it running. Finally got it cooled down, but hasn't had too much of a chance to run it good.

The car is located in the Twin Cities area.

Here is a link to our little corner of the web. New members are welcome!

Not to Flame or anything, but IMHO, I got SO SICK OF HEARING ABOUT THAT CAR. Yes, it is a SWEET CAR, however he bought the darn thing. I don't care much about that. If you want to make a claim about how you "made" the "best" car in freekin history, you should have at least built it. I have GREAT respect for the person that did the work on any car (ricer, vette, truck...), but none for someone who bought their car and made some pretty fantastic claims, then had a change of heart or whatever the F happened. I DON'T mean to offend anybody but that is my take on the whole "Merlin" thing, and I am VERY glad the new owner has not been here boasting.

Before anybody says anything about the CAR to me, I think we would all (or very nearly all) agree that that is one BAD car.

I know, I know... It is like a train wreck, I really don't want to look, but I just can't help myself. I really love that car, even told my non forum buddies about it, yet I have wanted to vent on some things about it for a LONG time. It wasn't much of a rant I know, but I am trying to remain tactfull. Say what you may.

That car is really worth a big story in a magazine! It's a piece of art! No matter who has build it or owns it, it's a great car. The thing is that it's great as long as the owner tells the truth and gives the credit to guys who actually build it...

This raises an interesting point...

Who should be credited for building a car?

The guy who dreamed it up?

The assembly line worker?

The Body shop?

The machine shop?

The guy who paid for it?

I would say say most of the credit goes to the guy who dreamed it up.
In the case of Merlin there were some very talented people involved who did some beautiful fabrication. They certainly deserve a lot of credit and I think Steve gave credit where credit is due.

But those talented people never could get the car to work right. Was that the designers fault or the workers fault?

From what I have read about the whole process I think a little of both. The biggest problem is that the owner didn't fit in the car!!

I think Steve deserves a lot of credit for making his dream car a reality. Most people would have given up or compromised. He finished the project.

I learned a lot from his project and I am greatful he shared it with us in such detail.

The most important thing I learned is not to put two blowers on a street car ;)

If I ever build a super C3 I will bribe Monty to make me a twin turbo :)

~Jay

I don't recall Merlin or the new owner claiming to have created this car. Merlin worked his butt off to be successful and had the car of his dreams built. I recollect his constant praise of the craftmanship and expertise of those doing the work. He shared his experience with us and everyone here benefited from what he shared. Merlin was a valuable forum member. Not many people would take the time to respond to each and every response made in his threads. All the while, he took alot of abuse and criticism from the DIYers. Geez...even after the guy has moved on and doesn't even participate here anymore, people still want to put him down.

I respect Steve for 1) knowing when to enlist the work of an expert and 2) always giving that person credit for awesome work.

yeah too bad he took it down, when I was bored to death I always liked to go there and stare at the pics. All my friends saw those pages, even those that aren't into cars liked it.
