i am trying to install a new washer pump on my 82. i noticed a black tube that the pump screws into but how do i hold the black piece so i can screw in the pump? there has to be a trick to this.
??? are you talking about the in the tank pump? there's a big plastic nut oin top of it, it's kind of hard to remove but that secures the pump in there.
If you figure that out you get to sit next to Zora when you die, I honestly wouldn''t know, I couldn't fit any appropriate tool in there. Guess my seat is next to Henry F :(
You need a 7/8" deep socket, (like a sparkplug socket, but wider obviously!) and an extension of say a foot. Assuming you already have the filler neck out, stick the nut into the socket with some tape and poke it into the bottle. Then you can wave the extension around like you're stirring gravy whilst wiggling the washer pump around in its hole, through the fender vent with your other hand. After a bit of cursing they should meet up and you can screw it all tight!
Did mine years ago, but I took the bottle out. The neck comes off. Quite an effort to maneuver the bottle out and back in. Otherwise, the socket and extension info above is the answer.
