I am looking to get into an older muscle/performance car. I want something old that I can tinker with. I love the looks of the bumper C3 Vettes. However, there is the question for me of headroom and legroom. I am 6'7" and about 260 lbs. I fit decent in a new C5, but a C4 is so tight I can't even really drive it. How does the C3 compare? Should I get an older Camaro or Chevelle instead that would fit my body better?
I also fit pretty good in modern F bodies (Camaro/Firebird/Trans-Am). The Mustang, while being a nicer car, is terrible on legroom.
The '72 I have is certainly tight in headroom.....BUT, I took off the rear seat mounts and the seat belt cover, and lowered the seat by allmost 1.5 inches or so....that and adding a TT wheel, .....fixed most of the complaint of too lo a top.....due to my added height from an extra lombar vertabra.....it's a PIA to live with....
now to get leg room, I finally cut the floorboard across the lower front edge, and up the sides to steering wheel flange height.... and gained 2.5 inches in extra forward legroom...this allowed my knees to be off the wheel....the wheel is a now a late shark wheel....smaller and thicker...but stock looking...
Get a vert but you will still have problems with leg room. These cars where designed by rich white guys for rich white guys back in the 60's, most prolly under 5'10".
Forget the C3. I guy in our club who is about 6'3" got in mine. His head stuck out of the Ts and his knees were real scrunched up. He has a C2 and has no problem. The C5s can handle tall people pretty weel too.
Yeah that's what I am starting to think, that this car will be much too small, after reading your replies. Oh well. Sure would make a great collector's car!
I'm 6'4" and 240 lbs. Fit fine in my 69 roadster. Have driven it on several 2000 mile road trips. It's no more uncomfortable or comfortable than my 63. The C4's I used to own were tougher to get in and out of. I don't have a tilt and tele wheel either.
That being said, no Corvette is as "roomy" as a full size muscle car. Chuck
I am 6'6" and 220 lbs. Tight fit and knees rub. I am going to do the MrVette Mod and get a tilt-tele. I have a convertible and have plenty of head room!
You don't sit in a C3, you wear it!
I have sat in a C4 and even a C5. Still not a lot of room. If you get an automatic you get a lot more room for you feet/ At leat you left leg won't be up as high!

Re: C3 Interior Headroom/Legroom (stingry)
6'1" about 180lbs, the 77 fits me pretty nice, thank god for the tilt though otherwise my legs would be fubar.
If you want a older musclecar to tinker with go for a 67-69 Camaro or firebird/ Trans Am. Great cars, lots of fun and easily modded but built for a little more comfort than the vettes. If I didn't find my vette when I did I was going to go for an older RS Camaro
