Well I got my QQ application sent back to me because apparently the fee that is listed on the front of the application is not the correct fee. Instead of just requesting the extra 4 dollars I believe it was, they sent the whole damn thing back. Anyways I am a little worried they are just going to pull this poopie again being that the form that says incorrect fee also has a line about being registered. Currently my vette is registered with standard plates although that expires end of november (NEXT WEEK). Am I correct thinking it needs to be registered even though I am registering it for QQs? Think they will give me hell? I really dont want to have to keep mailing them poopie and waiting a few weeks to get it back. :mad
When I went to Trenton and did it all in person I actually had the reverse impression: It was so pleasant that I couldn't believe it was actually DMV!! You go to an entirely different office, and they are only dealing with "special plates" which is QQ and a few other categories, and the employees were not the usual surly, incompetent, angry-at-the-world and taking it out on you cretins you typically encounter at DMV. :) MJ
Do they have any privatized DMV companies by you? I go to the DMV in Springfield here and right down the street from it is a little private DMV company. You pay a little extra on all the fees but you get the VIP treatment. They know all the "back doors" and have all the connections. Lemme tell ya, I had to get a title for my car and all I had was a registration card from another state that had the wrong VIN on it!!! (Don't ask  ) This place handled everything, told me exactly what I had to do, and within a month of filing all the paperwork, I had a nice clean title in my name :D If I ever have to do anything other than your regular driver's license or registration, I'm definitely going back to them, no doubt about it.
Good luck, I know it can be a real :boxing with the DMV.
Well you guys know my impression of the DMV however a DMV and also being in N.J. spells real sucking!! Let me know how it turns out. I have to go back Tuesday to match the VIN/ title and apply to get permanent tags/ title.
I can't say jack about NJ DMV, but I remember really clearly my old Maryland experiences....that in the MD DMV in Gaithersburg it was an all day damn affair to do anything, the lines and serivce were so long they actually installed bank oriented security measures...bulletproof glass etc to keep the surley, incompetant clerks from getting shot.....
now up the road about 50 miles or so is the Hagerstown DMV, which ALL my old friends drive up the road and have lunch and get instant smiling service from people who actually care and know what they are doing first shot....
Methinks maybe you need find another DMV office downstate that's a leisurely drive, and not so busy....

Re: NJ QQ Questions - DMV DOES SUCK! (Spook)
Well I got my QQ application sent back to me because apparently the fee that is listed on the front of the application is not the correct fee.
Let me see if I understand this correctly... they make a form and put the wrong price on it and reject it when you send it in.
As sad as it may be that sounds like a typical NJ government thing. I guess some official somewhere raised their kickback and didn't update the form.
No ... this was all done via snail mail. They have a special dept for doing QQ (historic) plates. I had to call and wait for them to mail me the application. Then I just had to fill it out and send in a copy of the title, 2 pictures, and the fee (84.00 as noted on the application). I guess this is only 2 weeks (maybe 3) since then and I got EVERYTHING back and a form that says needs to be 91.00. :mad ... Thats for the personalized historic plates... I can go and hassle em but then I will still have to wait and return to get my plates whenever they are pressed, so why bother.
Anyways the real worry now is that there was a thing on the generic form they sent me that indicated I needed to pay 91.00 (only thing filled out). The thing was a box to say it needs to be registered already which for the next 5 days or less it is... These bastards... I am sending it back already and if they send it back I will take a trip out to trenton and get angry on em. DMV responds real well to that... :D ... no they dont... but it makes me feel better. I honestly think I should refuse to pay the extra 7 dollars... I feel we had a contract outstanding that clearly states 84 bucks... I'll take em to small claims court...hehe
