Default Intake Manifold Gasket

The Summit website suggested Fel Pro #1256, so I ordered it and received it. The Edelbrock instructions state Fel Pro #1204.

I believe the difference is that the first one has an OPEN exhaust crossover, while the second one is CLOSED.

Should I install the 1256 or get the 1204? What's the impact of the difference between open and closed exhaust cross over?

Thanks.

You are right. I made the switch from an open flow to a blocked gasket. I do not notice a big difference upon startup but seems to run a little better when fully warmed up.

Go with the blocked. The crossover works as kind of a preheater for the carb, but the exhaust gasses (I'm told) can erode an aluminum manifold over time, and it really doesn't help that much. If you do have the open gaskets, make darned sure you use the correct metal plate between the two gaskets you're supposed to use to mount the carb. I've run my '69 with and without, and notice absolutely no difference either eay.

Is it ok to use a gasket that blocks the exhaust crossover if both the head and manifold have ports for a crossover? Will it hold up?

edit... Found some gaskets that have metal plates for the blockoff... Tnx anyway...

Chris, that sure is an ugly car. :jester I may have to look for some pipes for mine now that I've seen yours.

You're right, if the crossover was just blocked with gasket material, it would burn out in a heartbeat, so they put a metal plate in the gasket.
