Default Reflectix vs Super Insulator

Can someone give me the tradeoffs of using Reflectix vs Super Insulator?
Super Insulator is more expensive, but which one does the better job for the cost? also they both look like the same thickness so I assume the carpet job and reassembly is the same?

Since there is so much labor in this job, I suggest buying the best insulation you can afford and doing it right the first time........

You can go on my website and look at the "Insulating the Cockpit" article to see how mine came out. I used the Super Insulator and so far it's done a great job of insulating and quieting the interior. The only problem I experienced is, because of the thickness of the material, putting some of the console pieces back in took a lot of work. Everything was off by 1/4 inch. The parking brake console fit was extremely tight and I had to remove some of the insulation from the rear bulkhead behind the seats before I could get the brake and shifter console installed. Also, because of the thickness you cannot use this insulation on the doors. I haven't done mine yet but I will install a thinner insulation on the door panels this summer. I don't have any input on the reflectix. Good luck.

I used the Reflectix and am very happy. It is so thin that the only problem area I had was with the seats. Trimmed it back a little and everything was fine.

I've seen your pictures and comments on the Super Insulator. Everything looks great. How did you handle the area underneath the accelerator pedal? Also did you cut out space for the seat mounts or mount the seats on top of the insulator? How much of the superinsulator did this require? My car is an 82

I'm not familiar with Super Insulator, but my reason for using Reflctix was weight. I am on a mission to reduce weight as much as possible on this pig, yet still have something I can comfortably drive. I had it down to 3060 lbs. but have since re-installed the A/C stuff on the engine, although that was with the spare and carrier installed (since removed).

What is the difference in weight between the two products? I know one down side to Reflectix is that it will crush after a period of time, like under the heel area by the gas pedal.

I didn't do anything special to the accelerator pedal. If you find that you aren't getting full throttle after the insulation is in you can just bend the pedal up a little to give you increased travel. I mounted the seats directly on the insulator without making any cutout. This only increases the height of the seat by maybe 1/8 inch or so and won't cause a problem. I believe that I needed to order two packages of the insulation but I have about 1/2 package left over. One thing that I would caution you about is your wiring. If any of your harness has any bare wires or loose connections they can short out on the aluminum of the insulation. This happened to me and caused a fuse to keep blowing. Make sure all your connections that go through the center console are good or you may have the same problem or worse.

Did your carpet have the jute attached? I see a note in Ecklers that theirs does and wondered if that might cause an issue. I looked at my old carpet and the attached jute seems to be in places that should not cause a problem, but I'd like to know from someone who's already been there done that.

The Reflectix is super light; but is not adhesive backed. IMO, it's more suited for temp reduction than noise reduction (it does both, just one better than the other).
