When I had the distributor cover off installing a new oil pressure switch, I noticed that the plastic piece that holds the four wires going into the back of the distributor only had the bottom half in place. The top half is long gone. Where do I find THIS piece. Or am I going to have to fabricate something?
Larry, I tried to answer this, but then saw a picture of the distributor, and realized I was wrong. I think you can buy the part, I'm just not certain of where. Sorry.
If you cant find this piece, would a dab of silicone hold em in place? I doubt you'll be able to find that one piece alone as a new purchase. It shouldnt be too hard to rob one fron a spare dist somewhere. I may have one laying around. Ill go see what I have right now.
Well all I could find was a completely bare housing. Cant find all the guts that were stripped from it. I agree with joeveto though. I believe that the plastic piece in question is part of the harness. I think its only one piece but i could be wrong. It gets secured in place when the cap is put on.
I hae discovered that you can use some silicone sealant and cover it with a cling wrap (Saran Wrap) to mold things such as this. Looks like its a little Saran Wrap and silicone sealant in my future!
I have some vulcanizing tape (self sealing tape). What I am "concernec" about it a gap between the top of the wires and the distributor cap base that may let water into the inside. Maybe not a concern.
Just remove the old grommet, wrap the wires with excess tape, cram it into place and press the cap on. Let it cure. The tape will deform and settle and will leave a nice weatherproof seal.

I wouldnt be concerned with water because of the gap unless yur plannin on fording some deep streams. LOL. But seriously, the small gap may even be helpfull in providing a vent so that moisture due to condensation can vent rather than build up and cause misfire. It does happen.
