I'm trying to get the 73 running for the first time with the body on. I rebuilt the motor 2 years ago and ran it long enough to break in the cam. The motor was mounted in the frame and I hooked up all the nesessary stuff to make it run. The fuel source was a gas can at the back of the car with a hose dropped into it. Now the body is on, the tank is in (with fuel in it) and I can't get fuel to the carb. It will run for a few seconds when I pour some gas into the carb and I did this at least 6-8 times and still no fuel is coming into the carb. Is there some way to prime the pump or could the pump have taken a poopie. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Craig
There's a lot of possibles here.
Start by disconnecting the line at the carb. Crank the engine and see if fuel emits from the line. If no, then disconnect the fuel feed line at the pump and see if it leaks from there. It should because the tank is higher than the pump connection.
Thanks,I did crack the line at the carb and no gas there. Tomorrow night I will take the line off at the pump and see if I have gas there or if there is blockage or something else going on. Craig
if line was open from tank conection to pump, all that time ,disconnect at both
ends and use compressed air to blow from pump to tank end. spiders like pipes. wrap a shop rag around the end(loosely) like a balloon to catch anything that come's out.
