I'm working on a new project here and I need to ask a favor from you guys. Could you please give me your ride height measurement in the FRONT only. From the ground to the center of your wheel well lip. I don't care if you have a front monospring, cut springs or whatever. Just please tell me if you have a SB or BB and the ride height. Thanks to everyone.
Hi Dan-I have the monospring from you guys and the tubular upper and lower control arms. I don't have the engine back into the car yet though. The nuts on the lowering bolts at the end of the spring are only threaded on about 1-1.25 inch. The ride stiffness blocks are on the second softest setting. It's still real stiff. I plan on tightening the bolts up another inch to compensate for the engine and trans weight. I only have about 3 inches of shaft showing on the Bilsteins. How much should I have? It seems like they are bottoming out. By the way, the entire engine bay is gutted. The core support is out, the engine and trans are out, the heater box is out and all of the hood latches, windshield wiper motor, cruise control, and everything else is out of the engine bay, except the headlights. Anyway, my ride height is about 28 5/16". I hope that helps. Oh yeah- do I need the sway bars with the fiberglass springs? Thanks....Mike
Edit: my tires in the front are 255/60/15's
With just 21,550 miles, I doubt my '82 has 'settled' much, so, here goes:
Wheel-well lip, directly above spindle: 28 & 1/16"
fender peak, directly above spindle: 33 & 3/4"
Front-Bottom corner of rocker-moulding: 8 & 1/2"
* I replaced the OEM 255/60R15 Eagle GTs with BFG Radial TAs of the same 'size':
however, I think the BFGs are a bit 'taller'*
Thanks a million guys. All the info is appreciated. Keep it comin.
Mike
I'm still running a front sway bar on my 80 w/that same front monospring. I have 2 vettes here that I measured the shocks on. One is a mid year (same frame) and it measures 2 5/8". He's running KYB's. I also have an 80 here, which is a forum members car, and I just pulled the engine out. His ride height is 30 1/2" and his shock shaft shows about 3 1/2 - 3 3/4" roughly. So I don't think yours is far off.
28 1/4 inch with Dunlop 255/60R15s and 2 1/4 inch gap. Stock FE7 suspension. I think the cold tires look a little low on air though as my tire is at 26 inch height and should probably be a little closer to 27 inch. I keep them inflated right at 34PSI and thats where they were when I put it up around Halloween.
I believe this next summer I might be cutting 3/4 coil with a front poly rebuild.
Anyone know the spring rate of the 82 FE7 spring?
Im starting to think that in 82 the only difference between STD and FE7 suspension was change from composite to steel spring, a rear sway bar addition and possibly different shocks.

Re: Ride Height (Van Steel)
26 inches with 25.9 inch tires.
Small block, with A/C, aluminum heads, intake, water pump and headers instead of manifolds. 460 springs cut 1 1/3 - 1 1/2 coil (I know you didn't ask, but I offered).
It's too low some times, like for speed bumps with headers. Other than that it looks
