Re: anyone here running dry sump system? (SmokedTires)
LOL, dunno..probably. I think i saw a stock car products 6 stage pump there (overkill..nice) I'm still working on mine, gonna break in the engine with wet sump so I don't contaminate the pump and stuff. After that I'll swap in the dry sump stuff. I've got a SCP 5 stage pump, stefs stainless raod race oil pan with 4 pickups (on both sides, not on one side -> circle track) and a 5 gal. patterson tank. Still fooling around with the lines and stuff on a mockup block
Re: anyone here running dry sump system? (Twin_Turbo)
(what a mess :) )
Yeah all those lines can get pretty expensive too
Have you ever heard of a barn's system ? I think it's like a dry sump but without the extra holding tank & lines. It's a special oil pan. Sounds like your about set on the dry sump set up already though
Re: anyone here running dry sump system? (SmokedTires)
Do you mean Barnes? They're a dry sump brand.
There are systems for wet sump with swinging pickups.
There is a system that's a crossbreed between a wet and dry sump. It's called a pressure reservoir system and it tackles some of the aeration problems found in wet sump systems.
I noticed the same thing on the fittings, damn, when you get over -8 sizes the prices go sky high. Luckily there's some good deals on ebay :D
I've also got a SUPER trick oil filter adapter. It has a bypass port on it for an oil cooler but the neat part is, there's an adjustable valve in it so you can actually dial in the amount of oil that is rerouted through the cooler, no more cardboarding up the cooler when it becomes too effective.
Re: anyone here running dry sump system? (Twin_Turbo)
TT,
All my stuff is "dry sump", beware what you buy those long pumps won`t fit in a Corvette frame, and if you run it down low (where it is supposed to be) you will need to notch your front crossmember. ...redvetracr

Redvetracr,
I test fitted mine in the frame and it clears the crossmember just fine, barely though. The pump is farily close to the engine and there's more room than when the stock powersteering pump was located there. Could I see a pic of how you routed the lines (if not that won't be a problem either, I know some people are protective of their stuff) :)
Re: anyone here running dry sump system? (Twin_Turbo)
I use them in my race cars. Besides running a double pump, you will need an external oil tank. It`s not necessary on a strip street machine. Besides keeping the oil cooler for the short blasts down the track, they are also a safty factor in case a rod breaks. Less oil to catch on fire if there is an explosion and dump on the track.
Re: anyone here running dry sump system? (Ironcross)
Wally,
I have a Patterson 5 gal tank already, in fact I have a everything, tank, pan, pump, lines, oil filter adapter (the one above) 4 moroso screen filters for the scavenge lines, a big peterson filter for the tank return line got the biggest damn oil cooler I could find (fluidyne, fits under my fluidyne rad)
The one thing I'm pretty pissed about is that moroso only makes EZ prime pump pulleys in the radius tooth style, not gilmer
Re: anyone here running dry sump system? (Twin_Turbo)
As far as I know, Howard Stewart is Stewart components. I think he only sells cooling related stuff now, I have a Lock Resistant Brake valve of his for my truck but he sold that stuff off to another company (or companies) and those are making those things now. Maybe the same goes for the e-z prime pulley?? I can't find it, it's not in their PDF catalog either.
Re: anyone here running dry sump system? (Twin_Turbo)
TT,
I'll be running a dry sump on the engine I'm building up. In fact, the block I got is made for dry sump anyway. I got a 5-stage Razor pump, but that's as far as I've gotten (since I'm still a LONG way off from getting the engine finished!).
Anyway, how are you planning to run your scavenge lines? Since you have the turbos, I'm guessing you'll be routing your lines way different than I will be, but it'd be interesting to get your take on the setup.
Re: anyone here running dry sump system? (Twin_Turbo)
I use the Barnes system, it`s all in the pan with a large double oil pump. No external pump, pullys or brackets. I use the setup on a blown injected 471 cubic inch Donovan on nitro. Check with Barnes or a local fuel drag racer.

Re: anyone here running dry sump system? (wallyknoch)
Thanks Howard, I'll go and post on their forum.
HunterRose, I have a separate single stage scavenge pump that will scavenge a small oil tank, in which the turbos drain. Kind of similar to what callaway used to scavenge their turbos (theirs are mounted below the oil level so need a scavenge pump too). I'm thinking about making the oil system for the turbos completely independant of the rest so that the turbos don't contaminate the bulk of the oil and I can get special oil for them. The rest of the scavenge sections for the pump are all on the pan, no rockerbox scavenging since I won't be doing circle track racing or anything, no need for that. If I do get a oil control problem (too much oil in the engine) I can always split a line and use that on the rockerboxes.
I also have a raceline remote pressure regulator, really makes adjusting pressure easy. I hate crawling under the car trying to adjust it on the pressure section on the pump. I have too much crap in the way there (wastegate, downpipe, motor mount...and so on)
