Default Powder coat vs. paint Q.

I was just trying to get some feedback from those of you who have had things powder coated.
1. is it worth it?
2. does it look better than regular paint?
3. will it work on headers?
4. does someone have pictures of parts done under-hood area?
I know a lot of these topics have probably been covered but I couldn't find them.
Thanks for any help

1. is it worth it?
YES
2. does it look better than regular paint?
YES, much toucher, resistant to oil, gas and other chemicals. Does not fade, hard to knock off.
3. will it work on headers?
Only very expensive high temp stuff. Ceramic coating is sort of a powedercoating application. Go with that.
4. does someone have pictures of parts done under-hood area?
Here's a lot of pwoerdercoat pics, all parts done by me :)

A VERY high performance manifold

(aircleaner is dented :( )

.. that should do for now ;) :D Have way more pics. I powdercoated about everything I could get mu hands on. All parts on my car are either zinc plated, new, powdercoated or urethane (the 2 component kind you have to cure in an oven) painted.

it's not that expensive, I've got a powdercoat gun, oven, sandblasting setup and my bro is in the coating business. He just dropped off 25# of special coating used by Mercedes, I think I'll put that on my frame :) (or have it put on, my frame won't fit my oven hehehe)

Awesome pics, and one thing I would add is pre paint preparation, regardless of your decision on powder coating or high quality paint, is the key. No surface coating will be long for this world if the surface is not properly prepared.

Will powder coating last on the coil springs without cracking?

What do you do to prepare? Just sanding? Do you prime? I plan to get all of my front end parts powdercoated when I rebuild this winter....

Clean very well! sand and/or remove paint entirely (the best). Clean again, and then again. Prime over bare steel, an absolute must!

The primer adheres to the metal or old paint surface, and the paint adheres to the primer. The “in-between” approach is marginal at best.

The better the preparation and quality of paint, the better it will look, and more importantly, the longer it will last. NOTHING lasts forever!

I have Eastwood's system and love it. I powdercoat every part I can. Much more durable than paint. Takes a bit more effort than just a rattle can, but you have a finished product quicker. As soon as it is cool you can put it in to use, where as paint you usually have to wait 12-48 hours for it to dry.

As for prepping parts, thoroughly clean with degreasers (I use lacquer thinner and Paint Prep) and bake at 400 for 20 minutes or so. Then let cool and coat, then bake again.

I do small parts in a toaster oven, larger parts in an oven I got at a garage sale for $50, and I have a 6000w heater for bigass parts.

Hey TT- they make powders in color now. ;)

Thanks to Twin-Turbos and the pics along with everyone Else's pics and responses. That answers my questions. Powder coat is the way to go definitely.
I'm fabricating some parts for the radiator and cowl area, needed to do that after removing my old air filter system .
I'll try and post some pics when they are done.
I'll check Eastwood's for some materials.

Yeah, the powdercoat will stay on the springs if you use a thin layer, if you put it on very thick it will crack. Powdercoat is plastic, it can habdle some deformation.

Hey Mark, black is a color :D I have lots of colors but mainly stuck to black because I like black and I don't want the stuff to look like a fricken christmas tree :) I really like your color. I have some aluminum, stainless and titanium colors.

Hard to see but the latching mechanism is black again but the wiper turrets/stands are stainless.
