Please help with 80 differential removal before I......
After complimenting my broken spring bolt with a nicely shattered easy-out, it has become clear that I must remove the rear differential cover to have it "properly" repaired
I have every bolt out, the six around the flange, the two on the frame, and the fill plug. but I can't get the darn thing off!!! :cuss The cover has dropped about 3/8" 'feels like' its hanging up on something. Thought it was binding, but there seems to be enough play in all the possible areas.

I never tried to just remove the cover. I yanked the diff out to change gears and seals recently. Your not too far away from just dropping the whole diff and making the job alot easier.
Just my .02 :chevy
Re: Please help with 80 differential removal before I...... (c3-4me)
The Dana (1980-82) rear ends do not have a "cover" on the differential. The differential gears bolt into a single unit that is the crossmember and the differential/spring base. I had a spring bolt broken on my 1980. I just dropped the entire crossmember and took it to a machine shop for repair.
You might want to check the threads in the differential carrier threads for the other two bolts, as the "missing" bolt may have caused the other bolts to wear the aluminum carrier (oblong holes). I just had the machine shop put helicoils in all the spring bolt holes.

Re-connect your aluminum wing to the diff housing. Undo the drive shaft at the tranny, and pull it all out as 1. It will make putting it back in a lot easier. Also there is a pinion bushing on the front side of the diff. Did you take it off? If not thats what your stuck on.
