I've never seen one for sale. They are impossible to restore, as virtually nobody can chrome over plastic. I checked a few places, and they wanted hundreds of dollars just to "chrome" the plastic handles. I've taken a bunch of these apart...NO fun.
Price doesn't surprise me. BTW...that one has the band at the top...i.e., the "checkerboard" of the handle doesn't extend all the way to the top, so technically that handle is correct for 70 and up to ???
67's were smooth as I recall....all black. 68 and 69 had the checkerboard pattern going all the way to the top, without the smooth band. Try finding one of those :) Chuck
What is somewhat surprising is that the reserve hasn't yet been meet, not even at $490.00...
true.. It shouldn'd cost much more thant that...
However- some of the people with serious NCRS cars are probably willing to pay even more if they really need that part...
Re: Another unbelievable ebay price! (Chuck Gongloff)

Chuck:
How do these things come apart? Particularlly the black grips from the center chrome section. Are there fasteners, or are they glued/bonded to the center?
No, they're not glued. Don't have one in front of me, so I'm going by memory here. :) First, you've got to remove the entire assembly from the car. Second, the emergency brake release button has to come off.
To do that, you have to press the roll pin out of the bottom of the handle. Then, you have to push the plastic handle IN further to enable you to unscrew the button on top. Once that's off, you can slide the plastic handle off. It's very tedious to do.
I looked into having the chrome re-done on the handle of my 69. Got quotes of hundreds of dollars to rechrome the ENTIRE handle, then I would have to black-out what wasn't s'posed to be chromed. I tried chrome paint, hobby shop "chrome tape", etc. Still looks crummy. It's without doubt the worst item in the interior of my car. :) Chuck
