Re: Lets Get the Numbers [Torque:Horsepower Ratio] (Scooter70)
At low RPMS the ratio will be wider. The faster the motor revs the lower the ratio will get. Past 5252 and the ratio will be less than one in this formula.
Re: Lets Get the Numbers [Torque:Horsepower Ratio] (Scooter70)
Its just a theoretical question.
I guess you could if your average RPM was around 2600 and you wanted max torque over hp @ 2:1. Similarly if you could average an RPM of 10500 you would max hp over torque again @ 2:1.
I realize that most are exhibiting a near 1:1 ratio but given the recent topic of Torque vs Horsepower (http://forums.corvetteforum.com/zerothread?id=696281) I thought it would be nice to see what the majority really believes/desires the ratio should be.
I am not trying to trick anyone or start the arguement all over again. I just thought this would be a quick and easy way to see what people are thinking.
Re: Lets Get the Numbers [Torque:Horsepower Ratio] (aharte)
Scooter, the two peaks are at different rpm's, so any of the possibilities listed are realistic.
I'd go for 1:1. I like revving up the engine, but don't want to be shifting gears constantly.

I guess my point was that there's a non-linear dependent relationship between the two. The initial question was a little vague. Yes, you can have a 2:1 max HP to max TQ relationship, but who would want that? Dep: Go buy an S2000 and see how you like having to rev to 9k just to get some power out of it. Under 6k, it's a regular 4 banger Civic. Maybe someone should swap a Hayabusa motor into their Vette!!! If you go the other way.... twice as much peak tq as hp.... then you've got a diesel. (I've seen pics of that swap done to a Vette somewhere in Europe...) :smash: Crazy Europeans....
Re: Lets Get the Numbers [Torque:Horsepower Ratio] (Spook)
If it were feasible which ratio would you rather your powertrain produced in your C3.
Torque : Horsepower
rate of energy (hp, kW, J/s) is function of speed and energy (lb-ft, N-m, J)
how can you compare them?
limit to peak values with non-metric dimensions? i suppose 1:1 is good, but it really doesn't mean anyting.
IMO, 'hp' should be an abolished spec and we should only look at an engine's torque curve with repsect to rpm. must consider both the absolute value and rate of change. :jester
