I dropped my power steering pump core off at Vette Brakes and Products on Friday, Oct 31. At the time, the unit was checked out 'ok' for rebuild. I was also told it may take 'several weeks' for them to process the credit as they get large quantities of cores from major sources and they process 'first in, first out'. Well, it's now about 6 weeks and no $40 credit yet. I sent them a note to inquire.
NOTE: After the first three weeks, I called and they told me the same thing; I'm the little guy and they get huge quantities from large customers and that I should be 'patient'. My concern is that patience is wearing thin and a $40 core credit is 'big' to me.
Is this a reasonable time to wait? I know it's just one core but $40 is $40... and I'm starting to think they lost the receiving record (I included the info from my copy in the note to them) OR worse, lost all record of the return.
Re: How Long to Wait for PS Pump Core Refund? (TedH)
About 3 or 4 years ago, I bought all rebuilt power steering components from ZIP Products. I had to call them to remind them that I shipped the cores back a month earlier. They checked their shipping department, and I had my credit within the week.
Re: How Long to Wait for PS Pump Core Refund? (BigBlockVette)
I think that is my problem: I lack the 'clout' that Zip has. Zip probably buys the parts from VB&P so if they complain about an outstanding core credit, they get alot more attention than the individual. And to think, I bought 'direct' to benefit from the extended warranty assuming the customer service would be included.
Pretty disappointing really and reminds me where VB&P's customer service focus is; commercial customers.
Bottom line, if I plan any future purchases with core charges, I'll think twice about buying from 'the source'. :nono:
Re: How Long to Wait for PS Pump Core Refund? (TedH)
IMO, 6 weeks is enough time to process your core refund. I feel that if I order from a company, I may be a little fish, but I'm just a important as the "big boys" and want/expect to be treated that way. Some time delay may be expected, but there come a time that waiting for a refund is excessive.
I may deal with a company once to try them out, but if I feel that I'm getting to run around or not receiving what I paid for (parts, quailty, customer service), I will never do business with that company again. I work just as hard for my money as they do.
Note: I have never order from VB&P and here they are a good company, so my comments about using a particular company/business are generic.
Re: How Long to Wait for PS Pump Core Refund? (TedH)
Just got off the phone with VB&P. They had somehow attached the returned core to the original invoice as an item that I had purchased (vs. a core that I had returned). The lady I spoke with was very apologetic and said she would issue the credit today and follow up with a written confirmation. She said that if I had not called, I wouldn't have received the credit due to the manner in which the core return was logged.
That's $40 I can put toward that new K&N filter for my Silverado..
