Default trying to cut down on cabin noise

well while i have the seats out i am reinsulating the car...i would like any tips

instead of ordering the replacment insulation i went to home depot. I found a huge 4x12 roll for 19 bucks. it's the same stuff that was in the car except for the stitching patern on the foil/insulation. it's r-19. I have loud exhaust, but that's not what i'm talking about i just want to quit the road nosie for the days when the tops are on. Should i put this insulation in my doors and dash too? i'm not sure about the doors, cuz doors drain water

I can't think of anything worse than insulation of any type inside a door panel/cavity...the things are steel shell capped by fiberglass on the outside, and that will promote RUST of the highest order...you may try undercoating sprayed inside the shell....but have to get the windows/mechanism out first, obviously....

I have never found anything remotly similar to the underpadding of jute and heavy thick tarpaper found in a car from anywhere but a junkyard....find a van and strip out the padding/sound deadening from the rear and rear wells...

I bought a roll of heat insulation for under the carpets from Summit. Pretty thick and foil on one side. I put it under all the carpet areas when I had the interior torn out. The rear deck and over the wheel wells. Too bad there is no way to really silence the storage box area as this is were a lot of noise comes in now. The wife says it is quiet enough to listen to music now - NOT. I haven't used the stereo since I bought the car, just more noise.......

Weather strippping will help to some degree as well as carpet insulation but come on it's 35 years old. My advice is turn up your sterio.

I bought the same stuff as you a couple of weeks ago at the Home Depot. I haven't cut into mine yet. I am still getting stuff together to do the job. Let me know how this goes for you..

Here's how i insulated my cockpit. It cut down a lot on the noise and resonance. http://mywebpages.comcast.net/vettfixr/page14.htm
