As I was slowing down for a stop light I noticed that the rpm's weren't staying up where they normally are, I had to pump the gas to (try to) keep it running but it died on me :mad luckily I was able to get it restarted and limp into a parking lot.
I found gas dribbling out of the lower sides of the carb, and also pooling down inside on the primary butterfly's
I'm thinking the float is stuck. :cry
Where would be the best place to find a rebuild kit for a Edelbrock 1901 Quadrajet?
While I have it apart I would also like to change the jets to get it run a little leaner (not sure what size they are now, whatever Edelbrock puts in them from the factory), does anyone know what size jets I should try?
And does anyone want to share their secret for getting the smell of gasoline off your hands?
Edelbrock for the kit is a good place to start. Watch the jetting as I think the 1901's came with 69's for mains and 36 rods. That is fairly lean for even a 350. If it has been running rick, check the float level when you rebuild. Agree the carbs are a pain as I just had a special build do the same thing. Pulled it apart, put in a new needle and seat and it did the same thing. Suspect the float is sinking. Fortunately I had a spare carb that runs fine.
Turbo-Jet,
Not sure what material the float is made out of. I pulled the carb off the car, but I haven't taken it apart yet since the torx screws that hold it together are in between the sizes of torx screwdrivers I have on hand
I put my old Rochester on it for the time being so I can drive it.
bluevetteman,
I think I already have a copy of that paper, I will re-read and see if I can figure out jetting.
Mystery Machine,
I know what you mean!! I was pretty worried  about starting it, but I had my extinguisher right there just in case.
Thanks for the replies, I will probably have more questions when I start playing with the jets.
