Question:
1. How does one put a wingnut etc on the hardtop rear threaded pin to keep the rear down? I can not get my hand in there with the soft top folded up.
2. What is used for this (ie wingnut washers etc)
If your talking about the corner pins, mine has the self locking nuts with the nylon threads set at a predtermined depth. They self latch just like the soft top when put on. I don't know if thats the way they came or Bubba's been here but it works. :D
I can't help you, but it appears that the new nick I chose is was pretty much taken. Guess it's time for a new one. By the way.... hello from another '71 LS5 owner. All original here.
I assume you need to use the bolt to sinch down the hard top. When I go over bumps the hard top flops. Maybe the two mounting pins are just not adjusted so well.
In any event we have a theraded pin for this purpose and it aint easy to get at it (as with many parts on this thing).

Hi
No, that's been Bubbaed, but the best idea, that can be done.
The top will not fly off when it's bolted to the side posta, attached to the front window latches and to the back with the soft top type pins.
The center hole ( 69 and later ) is only a locating pin.
The couple times I use my hard top I just took the side pins from the soft top and used those on the hard top. I don't have the center hole (luckely) but I did read in a mechenics book that the middle hole is only for alignment and worth less. Many people will just fiberglass it in.
I must say I like the idea of poping the top and tighting down the hard. There is a lot of rattling when you use the soft top pins. :smash:
Also make sure you put another coat of wax on the deck. Or get the clear protector tape from Mid America. You will get a soft top and hard top line. I have both lines and they don't buff out.
Oh and by the way...I think the assembly manual might show you guys what the correct hardware looks like. I think its a 1/4 stud attached to the top and then a plastic wingnut and two special washers (bevel top crome flat plastic botom to form a seel) :smash:
