Want to change my interior from red to charcoal. A lot of interior parts come in black. If I'm painting my dash charcoal will I need to paint the p-brake cover and other moldings that only comes in black?
Re: Is there a differance between charcoal and black (Skyhigh)
charcoal is typically like really dark grey where as black is black. I think the difference would be big enough to tell however I am not sure if that will stand true with original factory colors if thats what your talking about.
Re: Is there a differance between charcoal and black (Skyhigh)
I think black gives you more options in case of; say you were to install different type seats, and sometimes black interior items are less expensive than colored items.
Re: Is there a differance between charcoal and black (Skyhigh)
My seats were newly covered leatherette (vinyl) TAN when I bought the car. They were brand new so I could't see forking out the coin to change them out, so I dyed them with this vinyl/leather dye called Molecubond. This stuff wont scratch or flake and truley penetrated the material permanently dying it satinish black. They came out looking great, although I wouldnt mind upgrading to 100% leather in the future someday.
If you want black leather seats, get the 79-81 black covers and youll be set, as they are identical to 78PC & 79-82 style, but will be black and not charcoal. The only think to consider is your side bolsters as there are 2 inch and 4 inch types. This only matters if you are using your original foam backing. If you get new foam, I think they are all 4 inch bolsters to the threads.
I did get a new carpet set and I just ordered a black part number from Mid
America I think.
Everything else I dyed with SEM black vinyl paint or Plasticote vinyl paint and it all turned out better than I could have hoped for. If you are dyeing the interior, just make sure you clean up with dawn dish soap and then some type of solvent (non-residue leaving) before you start painting. I used Xelene/Xylol solvent and had excellent results.
