I'm cleaning up my engine compartment. Intake, valve covers, fan, & brackets are off. The top radiator support is peeling. I don't want to remove it now. My plan is to scrap the paint off and use a Rust-Oleum type Hi-Heat brush-on paint. I don't want to spray under the hood. Good idea...
should be fine. why dont you want to use spray paint? I have sprayed parts in my engine compartment before and had no problem. It only takes a second to lay down some news paper over most of the engine to prevent any paint "mist" from getting everywhere. and only another minute to tape up the parts that are very close to what you are spraying. It looks harder to do than it really is, honest.
The ideal thing would be to remove the part, clean and then paint. But i'm sure it's prolly just too much of a PITA. I painted my master cylinder with spray paint when it was in the car. My brakes where working fine and i didn't want to open up another can of worms by taking it out.
