You know, I love mods and performance increases, just a part of the hobby, but the larges 'performance' increase to be found is in tires.....over the decades that is.....newer design tires bring a whole new lever of possible performance to an older, and IMO better looking car....SO....
at what point does it get into the realm of being silly in the tire cost/benefit ratio....
and as the 'size' of the rim increases in diameter...so does the tire price....ASTRONOMICALLY!!!! from what I see ....
that is the largest reason I have stuck with 17 inch rims...hoping prices come down even MORE....when tires cost 160 bux/wheel...seems a bit high to me...
hell they ADVERTIZE tires for 40 bux/wheel...and no one can convince me the cost of production is all that much differant no matter what tread pattern they put on the damn doughnut....
so the opinion is.....17 is about it these days.....18 gets you twice the price, same tire....and anything larger is just stupid....not mentioning any looks opinions here, just cost of rubber....
OH....BTW,....staying in a rating of 130 or better MPH for the tire...Z rated??
One of the factors that most influenced me to purchase 18s over 17s is the prices and availability of tires. So many vehicles have stock 18s that the market will surely lower the costs and increase selection. :yesnod:
Gene I bought a set of 305 x 50 x 15 for $85. per tire. I want to upgrade to 18 minimum and even looked at 20 inch. Rims are about equal at $400-$500 per rim but tires vary from $400-$700 for 18 inch and starting at $700 for a small 20 inch tire.
I am looking at $3000-$5000 for upgraded rubber.
The reason I was looking at 20 inch is because I really like the rim offered only in 20 inch.
Found a really nice 18 inch but only offered in 6 bolt. Can't wind but I like thre RICER look for wheels. :)
