Default RE:'71 Headlight problem now what?

ok, i just took the line off othe "relay valve assembly" and blew on it and the headlight came up fine.... took the other line off and blew and it went down fine, however when I replace the lines, then blow in the main line running to ( I suppose the vacuum source), I hear air escaping from the relay valve assembly.. is there a way to see if these are bad? what is the usual vacuum source ? on the previous engine this line was hooked to the bottom front of carb.

I guess this is the culprit you're talking about????? This is the relay located next to the headlights and headlight actuator......

The sucking noise you hear doesn't mean it's the relay......could be a bad hose........but the first thing you need to do is stop blowing into the lines, as this system works on vacuum from the manifold which is opposite to pressure.......

Then you need to get a vacuum gauge and start from the manifold (or carb) and work each line and connection from there to find the culprit (drop in vacuum).......

It's a painstaking process, but not impossible even if you're not mechanically inclined.......the best bet for you is to buy a vacuum gauge and a replacement hose kit......this will explain the basics.......once the hoses are replaced and all is good with them........then you will be able to isolate if it's a relay or actuator.......which are the more expensive parts........

Trust me, you'll sort the system out, but it's a step by step process.........
